Driving a vehicle, drivers often use the traffic rule "obstacle on the right". Many motorists consider it almost the main thing and think that it is necessary to pass all cars moving on the right, and this is extremely wrong. The rule of interference on the right is applied in two cases: if cars are changing lanes at the same time and when passing unregulated intersections and other places where the traffic sequence is not regulated by traffic rules.

How the rule works when rebuilding at the same time

The procedure for changing lanes is regulated by the rules of the road, clause 8.4, which states that when cars moving in the same direction are changing lanes at the same time, the car on the right has priority. There may be several options for rebuilding, we will consider each in more detail:

The situation when you are driving in your lane and another car is changing into your lane. In this situation, the rule of the interference to the right does not work, regardless of which side of you the other vehicle is. You can give it way on your own initiative or to avoid collision.

The situation when you are changing into an adjacent lane, while other cars are moving straight without changing the trajectory. The obstacle on the right does not work here, you must pass all the cars moving along the lane and change lanes.

A situation when you want to move into the lane on your left, and the vehicle in the lane is also changing lanes. In this situation, the rule of interference on the right works and this car must let you pass, no matter where it is rebuilding. You have the absolute advantage of the movement, but still make sure to let you pass and keep going.

A situation when you want to move into the right lane, while the car moving along it is also changing lanes. In this situation, there is an obstacle on the right, and you must let the car pass.

Driving through unregulated intersections

The rule "interference from the right" is applied when crossing unregulated intersections of equivalent roads. In accordance with clause 13.3 of the traffic rules, an intersection is called unregulated if there is no traffic light, the traffic light does not work or the yellow signal is flashing, and there is no regulator.

The procedure for crossing such intersections is governed by the road traffic rules, paragraph 13.11, which states that the driver must pass cars moving on the right side.

Consider situations that can occur at an intersection: Situation when you turn right. This maneuver does not interfere with other road users, so no one needs to give way.

A situation where you turn left and another vehicle is moving straight or left. According to the rule of interference on the right, you must skip it.

A situation where you turn left and another car turns right. Your paths don't intersect, so you don't need to give up.

A situation where you are driving straight and the vehicle on your right is moving straight or left. In this situation, you must miss this vehicle.

The situation is when you are driving straight and the car on your right turns right. In this situation, if possible, we are moving together with another car, if this is not possible, give way.

Roundabouts are often unregulated without priority signs in front of them. In this case, it is necessary to let the cars entering the ring pass.
