It is not necessary to drive the car to a workshop to replace the engine. If you have enough time and simple devices, this operation can be carried out independently.
Car enthusiasts know that sooner or later they will have to face the replacement of the engine. Especially if the car has one and only owner who is not going to sell the car. For VAZ cars, engines are replaced, as a rule, in order to increase power. There are other cases when even a major overhaul is not able to save the main unit, and therefore a complete replacement of the motor is required.
Preparing a place for work
Replacing the engine takes about 8-10 hours, so in summer work can be done outdoors: this is facilitated by long daylight hours. In winter, the engine should only be changed in the hangar or garage. In order to quickly change the engine for a VAZ, a number of devices will be required: a hand hoist up to 3.5 tons, a crane-beam or a gallows. If no lifting devices are available, the assistance of two or three people will be required. It is better to replace it in the inspection hole, and if it is absent, roll the car onto the pads.
Removing and removing the engine
First, remove the hood, remove the battery and completely disconnect the electrical network of the engine: wires of the distributor, generator and starter, oil, temperature sensors and others. It is necessary to drain the oil from the engine and the liquid from the cooling system, then dismantle the radiator. Next, the fuel hose, the accelerator rod and the choke cable are disconnected. It is necessary to disconnect the front pipe from the exhaust manifold and the stove pipes, and then remove the starter.
The next step is to disconnect the engine from the gearbox. To do this, unscrew the two upper bolts, remove the clutch cylinder, after fixing the pedal, and unscrew the two remaining lower bolts. Next, they remove the engine protection and, lifting with a jack, untwist the studs on the pillows. In order to remove the engine, it is entangled with belts and lifted with talcum powder, loosened from time to time so that it comes out of the guides.
Installing a new motor
Before installing the new engine and body, it is necessary to thoroughly wash and prepare for replacement a new set of pillows, filters, oil and flushing, as well as parts found to be worn during removal. The engine is installed in the reverse order, its position is adjusted, oil and coolant are poured, after which the ignition is set, the engine is started and the operation is checked.
