If the engine of an injection vehicle does not start well and runs intermittently, the first step is to check its fuel system, including the fuel pump. You can do this yourself.
Necessary
- - tester;
- - tire pump manometer;
- - hose;
- - two clamps;
- - screwdriver.
Instructions
Step 1
Check the serviceability of the fuel pump electrical circuit using a multimeter or tester by connecting it to the wire terminals. If there is a signal on the tester, the wiring is good.
Step 2
Remove the protective cap of the fuel pump union, place a container under it, press with a thin slotted screwdriver on the valve. If the gasoline flows in a thin stream, then the pressure in the system is low. If the gas pressure is good, the pressure is normal.
Step 3
If possible, measure the pressure in the fuel system using a fuel gauge. At home, you can use a tire pump pressure gauge for these purposes.
Step 4
Unscrew the spool from the fuel rail union. Put the pressure gauge hose on the fitting, tighten it with a clamp.
Step 5
Switch on the ignition, but do not start the engine. The fuel pressure should rise to 2, 8–3, 2 bar and remain at this level. If it is below this figure, check the supply line. To do this, first check the filter, which is located under the underbody of the body near the gas tank. Then pay attention to the pump sieve. If it is very dirty, remove the fuel pump from the tank, remove the mesh and rinse it.
Step 6
Check the tightness of the pipe connection from the pump to the fuel line. Measure the pressure in the fuel system again. If all malfunctions are excluded, and the pressure remains low, we can conclude that the fuel pump is worn out. In this case, its replacement is required.
Step 7
Make sure fuel is flowing to the injectors. To do this, inspect the spark plugs. If they are wet, everything is fine. If the candles are dry, first check the injector harness connectors with a tester or tester. If there is no signal, therefore, it is necessary to look for a fault in the wiring.
Step 8
If the wiring is OK (there is a signal on the tester), unscrew the ramp mount and lift it under the intake manifold so that the injectors are visible. Switch on the ignition. If no streams of gasoline are visible in the nozzles of the injectors, then they are faulty and must be replaced.
