Among the most popular car enamels today, alkyd car enamel occupies a significant place. Its widespread use is ensured by an optimal price with high quality and reliability of the coating. Alkyd enamel is one-component and hardens well even outdoors.
The appearance of this synthetic dye has dramatically improved the quality of car painting. Alkyd car enamel is one of the derivatives of alkyd resin. The main difference and feature of this enamel can be called its rapid polymerization without any special conditions, that is, under the influence of oxygen and normal temperature.
After application, such enamel requires additional varnish treatment and subsequent polishing, therefore, it is rarely used for complete painting of a car. There is also a matte alkyd car enamel, it is used for partial repairs before varnishing, or as decorating parts without shine.
The advantages of alkyd autoenamel include its fast polymerization, ease of use, its low cost relative to other enamels, and a high level of protective properties.
The disadvantages include long drying time, the ability to lose shine over time, the difficulty of polishing. Also, the disadvantages can be partially attributed to its high polymerization: when the paint begins to dry actively, a thin layer of film begins to form on the surface, which does not allow the enamel to dry evenly, because of this, the likelihood of smudges increases.
The most common today is aerosol alkyd enamel: it is the best analogue of use in local work instead of a spray gun and airbrush, since it has a very fine grain when spraying and dries quickly.
