The body kit is one of the most common types of modern tuning. With its help, you can not only change the appearance of the car beyond recognition, but also improve the aerodynamic properties of your car.

Instructions

Step 1

To begin with, tuning experts advise you to decide: for what purposes do you need a body kit? Just to change the look or to improve aerodynamics? If your option is appearance, then the body kit is made on the basis of the old one, without new holes in the body. If in order to improve the racing qualities, then you will have to decide: whether to make a global body change or do without significant dismantling of parts.

Step 2

If you retrofit an existing bumper, the supporting structure will remain unchanged. This, in turn, ensures the preservation of the factory strength of the parts and, accordingly, your safety. Therefore, such body kits can be recommended for those who want to make a bumper with their own hands. More complex alterations are best coordinated with a tuning specialist.

Step 3

The simplest options for body kits are made of epoxy resin, the more complex ones are made of plastic, and the most expensive and durable are metal options.

Step 4

In order to make a fiberglass body kit, you need to make a model of the future design from foam. After that, using polyurethane foam, plasticine and stationery knives, the model is displayed under the pasting. Further, the structure is pasted over with fiberglass and left to dry. After everything has frozen, the foam frame is removed, and the brackets for fastening are made on epoxy. The structure is screwed onto the body, the attachment points are rubbed with putty, and the entire structure is subject to painting.

Step 5

For a plastic body kit, you will need a blank, which is made from linden, balsa or dense foam. As a rule, it is primed to harden the surface. The working surfaces of the blank are rubbed with candle wax or polish (then you need to wait about an hour and rub the surface with a woolen cloth). Then a special thermo-plastic is taken and, according to the instructions, is melted and attached to the blank. The method of making a plastic bumper is quite complicated and time-consuming, so it is better to seek the advice of a specialist.

Step 6

It is no less difficult to make a new body kit from metal. To do this, you need to remove the old body kit, cut pieces of the desired shape from metal sheets, rivet them to each other and to the car body. Then the surface is putty, primed and painted. Such kits are the most difficult to perform, but they are more durable than epoxy and plastic counterparts.
