When the car moves on the road, it is protected from pits and irregularities by the chassis, namely the front and rear suspensions. They are the first to take the blows, so they often fail. To keep your vehicle in good working order, you should regularly check the condition of the chassis. This will give you the opportunity to feel confident on the road.
Necessary
- - ball joint puller;
- - tie rod tip puller;
- - spring puller.
Instructions
Step 1
Pay attention to the vehicle's trajectory when driving in a straight line. In the case when the car spontaneously leaves to the side, when it is very difficult to keep a straight line (you have to steer all the time), you can hear squealing tires on bends, inspect the undercarriage of the car - front and rear suspensions.
Step 2
Pay attention to tire tread wear. It should not be "eaten" from either side. If, when driving on an uneven road, there is a "breaking" of the suspension, extraneous noises and knocks are heard, then it should also be checked. In addition, repair the undercarriage even in the case when it is not possible to correctly establish the camber.
Step 3
Repair the front suspension. To do this, place the vehicle on a lift or over a viewing pit. Apply the parking brake and lock the rear wheels with stops on both sides. Check for play in the ball joints. To do this, lift the front wheel, take it from the top and bottom, and wiggle it. If there is a noticeable deviation from the vertical axis, replace the ball joint. Check the tie rod play. To do this, take the wheel on the left and right sides and shake, if you hear a knock and deviation is noticeable, change the tip of the tie rod.
Step 4
Remove the wheel. Remove the front shock absorber upper bolt. Disconnect the caliper and carefully move it aside without damaging the brake hoses. With a socket head 13, unscrew the lateral stability rod from the lower arm. Press out the tie rod end with a puller. Insert a special car spring tensioner into the front spring. Squeeze it. Press out the ball joints (lower and upper) with a puller. Unscrew the upper arm bolt and remove it. Pull out the spring and relieve it smoothly. Unscrew the lower arm bolt and remove it from the crossmember, while noting the number and order of the shims between the arm and the crossarm in order to reinstall them during reassembly.
Step 5
Inspect rubber-metal hinges, replace if defective. Check the lower and upper suspension arms for damage. The bolts must fit into the mounting holes without force. Check the shock absorber for fluid leakage, if there is damage, replace. Examine the spring; it should not show any visible cracks. If the car is used constantly, change it. In the event that it is necessary to replace the front wheel bearing (the wheel brakes spontaneously when driving), this should be done on the car before removing the spring. Assemble the front suspension in the reverse order.
Step 6
Secure the front wheels. Raise the back of the car and remove the wheels. Remove the shock absorbers and springs. Check them for defectiveness. Replace if abnormal. Assemble the rear suspension. Then adjust the wheel alignment.
