The camshaft is one of the parts of the gas discharge mechanism that is designed to control the movement of the valves. Many car enthusiasts are thinking about adjusting the camshaft to improve the performance of the car.
Instructions
Step 1
To adjust the camshaft, it is necessary to remove the cylinder head cover. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the storage battery beforehand. Remember that this may erase engine fault information. Then block the crankshaft and remove the bolt that secures the camshaft sprocket.
Step 2
After that, it is necessary to block the crankshaft. To do this, you need an assistant whose function will be to depress the brake pedal when the fourth or fifth gear is engaged. Then remove the drive chain tensioner and V-belt. To do this, loosen the adjusting screw and the bolt that is intended for fastening. Then gently tilt the generator towards the engine and disconnect the belt.
Step 3
Check the condition of the removed parts. Replace if severely worn or damaged. Do not forget to check the belt tension during the subsequent installation, if it is insufficient, then it is necessary to tighten it.
Step 4
After removing the belt, lift the car onto a lift and with the crankshaft locked, unscrew the bolt securing the crankshaft belt pulley. Remove all bolts located on the oil pan and attached to the drive chain cover. Then remove the cover and turn the crankshaft so that the keyway is facing up.
Step 5
Look for the polished chain links that should line up clearly with the markings on the sprockets on the shafts. If these parameters do not match, remove the sprocket from the camshaft and adjust the chain. Then check the alignment of the marks and then replace the chain housing, head cover, belt pulley and fasten the oil pan bolts.
