Isolated cases of clogging of the fuel pump grid signal the presence of foreign particles in the fuel used. If such cases become more frequent, it means that the amount of accumulated dirt inside the tank has reached a dangerous level. In this case, it is highly recommended to remove the gas tank and rinse it out.

Necessary

  • - detergents "Lobomid", MS or ML;
  • - assistant and tool for removing the gas tank

Instructions

Step 1

Before removing the gas tank of front-wheel drive VAZ vehicles, disconnect the negative wire from the corresponding terminal of the storage battery. Fold down the rear seat cushion and unscrew the cut-out section of the noise insulation. Unscrew the screws securing the fuel tank hatch cover and remove it together with the rubber gasket. Disconnect the block with wires from the fuel level sensor and unscrew its fastening nut. A ground wire is fixed under the nut - disconnect it too, removing it from the stud.

Step 2

Climb under the bottom of the vehicle using a lift, viewing hole, or overpass. Loosen the clamps of the inlet pipe hose, air outlet hose, separator hose, fuel line hoses. Disconnect the filling pipe hoses from the pipe itself, disconnect the remaining hoses from their fittings. Disconnect the hoses from the fuel lines. While holding the fuel tank, unscrew the tank clamps and slide them down. Place the left clamp behind the resonator tube. Pull the front of the tank down, remove it from the vehicle and drain the remaining gasoline from it.

Step 3

Unscrew the remaining nuts securing the fuel level sensor and remove it from the gas tank together with the gasket. Inspect the inside of the fuel tank along the top and bottom parting line for leaks. If necessary, glue the torn rubber pads. Flush the gas tank first with clean gasoline, then with a jet of hot water, and then with a specialized detergent. Wash out contaminated fuel filter and fuel tank screen. Inspect all removed clamps and replace them with new ones if necessary.

Step 4

Rinse the tank thoroughly with hot water to remove any residual detergent. Dry the gas tank well, assemble it, remove the fuel level sensor wires inside the body and install the tank on the car in the reverse order of removal.

Step 5

To remove the gas tank on classic VAZ models, disassemble and remove the right trunk trim. Remove the fuel filler flap with a rubber seal, disconnect the wires from the fuel level sensor. Unscrew the nut securing this sensor, find the ground wire under it and remove it from the stud. Then follow the instructions in points 2-4. On classic VAZ models, there is only one gas tank clamp.
