At subzero temperatures, the car does not immediately heat up to operating condition. The duration of the process depends on the rate of warming of the thickened oil and cold antifreeze. There are several ways to speed up engine warm-up.

Necessary

Heating element, electric preheater, thermal accumulator, fuel line heaters, prestarting liquid heater

Instructions

Step 1

Use the heating element the military first installed in the engine oil sump if you can find such a rarity. The design was powered by a standard battery and warmed up the engine oil a little before starting. True, this significantly discharged the battery, already weakened by the frost.

Step 2

Warm up the car in this mode. Start the engine. Sweep the snow from the car, clean the windows and slowly get under way. The engine, of course, will not have time to warm up to operating temperature, but when driving, the warm-up process will accelerate. Prepare the motor for loads - drive slowly for the first kilometer, do not increase the speed too much. In addition, in the car, in addition to the engine, it is necessary to warm up the suspension, struts, steering mechanism, gearbox, and they only warm up on the go.

Step 3

There is one more trick: turn on more energy-intensive consumers - high beam, all heating, so that the load on the generator increases. It also speeds up engine warm-up.

Step 4

Choose from modern engine preheating systems. For example, an electric pre-heater. Plug it in through a household outlet, and after three hours the coolant will be warmed up to the desired temperature. True, the device must not be left unattended. Battery powered designs are safer, but they drain the battery quickly

Step 5

Place a thermal accumulator on the vehicle. This option is suitable for those who use the machine almost daily. During the trip, antifreeze, heated to the operating temperature, accumulates in a special thermos. At start-up, hot antifreeze is pumped into the cooling system by a pump, warming the coolant by 15-20 ° C. The engine is easier to start and warms up faster. It is a pity that the heat accumulator keeps the temperature for no more than two days.

Step 6

Install automated fuel line heaters, especially if your car has a diesel engine. They improve the fluidity of the fuel, the flammability of the fuel-air mixture, and its volatility. They allow you to get rid of frost in the fuel system, which forms there when refueling with low quality gasoline. For greater practicality and economy, use fuel line heaters together with a thermal accumulator.

Step 7

Apply a prestarting fluid heater. The air-fuel mixture burning in its chamber heats up the antifreeze, which is then pumped over by a pump and heats up the engine and radiator in 30-60 minutes. The heating start time is programmable, the heater is remotely controlled. The system goes into standby mode when the antifreeze temperature reaches 85 ° C. Its decrease below the set minimum turns on the heater again. The disadvantage of a liquid heater is additional fuel consumption. However, for one cycle of warming up gasoline, less is required (no more than 1 liter per hour) than for starting and warming up a cold engine (up to 1.5-2 liters of fuel). Another drawback: such systems cannot be used indoors, so as not to be poisoned by carbon monoxide. Still, it is the most efficient way to warm up the engine quickly.
