The headlamp glass can crack from a pebble from under the wheels of a vehicle in front of it. Driving with a broken headlamp is very dangerous, and the traffic police inspector can issue a fine. Therefore, the glass must be replaced as soon as possible.
Necessary
- - building hair dryer;
- - screwdrivers;
- - spanners;
- - cotton gloves;
- - sealant;
- - new glass for the headlight.
Instructions
Step 1
Wipe the body around the headlight with a damp cloth. If the glass is broken, under no circumstances should the machine be washed, as water that gets inside can cause a short circuit. Open the hood and remove the negative terminal from the battery to de-energize the vehicle. Try to carefully remove all the debris. Be sure to wear cotton gloves to avoid injuring your hands.
Step 2
Remove the headlight. To do this, refer to the manual for your car. Find the section that details the headlamp removal process.
Step 3
Detach the radiator grill. To do this, unscrew all the screws and nuts holding it. Now, according to the instructions, find all the bolts that secure the headlight housing. Unscrew them carefully. Try to remember the location of each self-tapping screw so as not to confuse places when reassembling.
Step 4
Feel on the back of the wiring block. Detach it carefully. When doing this, try not to lose the rubber seal. The headlight will not function properly without it.
Step 5
Grasp the headlamp housing and pull it towards you with a slight force. The headlamp should come off the mountings and be easily pulled out.
Step 6
Clean the headlamp with a slightly damp cloth. Dirt and dust that gets stuck in hard-to-reach places can be removed with a small brush. Be sure to check out the nest that contained the headlight.
Step 7
Turn on your building hair dryer. Heat the headlamp glass edge in gentle circular motions until the sealant begins to soften. After that, you need to gently pry off the edge of the glass with a screwdriver and carefully remove it. Unsuitable glass can be thrown away immediately.
Step 8
Remove any old sealant from the headlight housing. Thoroughly degrease the edge around the entire perimeter. Remove the new glass from the packaging. It must also be degreased. Apply sealant to the new glass and headlight housing. Warm it up slightly with a building hair dryer. After that, gently press the glass against the headlight housing, being careful not to distort it.
Step 9
Excess sealant must be carefully removed. Let the headlight dry a little. Install the headlamp in reverse order and check its functionality.
