Considering the quality of Russian fuel sold at gas stations, timely replacement of a car's fuel filter is a must. However, in modern foreign cars it is not always possible to find this important element of the fuel system "on the fly".

It is recommended to change the fuel filter at least after 10 thousand kilometers, or after a year of operation (as indicated in the Lanos manual). However, the need for replacement may arise earlier; for example, if you are repairing the fuel system or you are "lucky" to refuel at a questionable gas station. In addition, experienced car owners, taking into account the Russian reality in terms of the quality of gasoline, recommend completely changing the filter after 5-6 thousand kilometers. The usual "symptoms" that indicate the need to replace the filter are manifested in the form of jerks when leaving the place, or a loss of power when trying to suddenly give gas.

How to choose a fuel filter

It is worth noting that a lot of fakes have appeared recently; filter is a very popular element. Therefore, it is advisable to purchase products from well-known manufacturers, such as, for example, Motorcraft, Fram, ACDelco, Bosh, GM, Chempion, Genuine. The packaging of verified manufacturers must have a hologram. The cost, depending on the manufacturing company, can range from 132 rubles (Korean DJ) to 882 rubles (Genuine).

Replacing the fuel filter in Lanos

The filter is located in the engine compartment, near the vacuum brake booster. The first thing to do is to reduce the pressure in the fuel system. To do this, turn off the engine, turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative terminal from the storage battery. Now you need to open the cover of the fuse box; you need to find relay number 30 and pull it out. As a result, the fuel pump will be disconnected from the power source. Connect the battery, start the engine and wait until it stalls by itself (it will take no more than 3-8 minutes in time). Then you can turn off the ignition and again disconnect the "minus" from the battery. If your car has been parked for a long time - 3-4 hours, then the operation to reduce the pressure in the fuel system can be omitted; it will drop to zero anyway.

In the next step, squeeze the filter clamps to disconnect the fuel return line. Do the same with the inlet pipe (it is located on the opposite side of the filter). Then, using a certain effort, remove the filter. When installing a new element, make sure that the arrow on the body coincides with the direction of movement of the fuel. Then start the engine and check that there are no gasoline leaks at the joints of the fuel lines and the filter.
