Step 1

The clutch slave cylinder is required to drive the release bearing fork. In its housing, the piston moves under the action of the brake fluid in the system. The piston drives the slave cylinder rod, which pushes the clutch fork. The pressure in the system is created by depressing the clutch pedal, which acts on the master cylinder and its piston. But the piston is a metal element with rubber rings, which wear out over time when rubbed against the cylinder walls. Therefore, it is necessary to completely change the cylinder, it is pointless to repair it.

Step 2

Place the car on a pit, overpass or on a lift. This applies to rear-wheel drive vehicles such as the VAZ 2101-2107. Their working cylinder is located at the bottom, it is most convenient to get to it from the pit, since nothing will interfere with the repair. You can, of course, having suffered a little, do it from above.

Step 3

Take a jar into which you drain the brake fluid. First, use a blower to take out all the brake fluid from the reservoir. But on the cylinders for draining, a special fitting is provided. It is necessary to put on a hose of a suitable diameter, put the other end into the jar. Unscrew the fitting using a special brake pipe wrench. Turn a couple of turns to pour the liquid. Press the clutch pedal several times to flush out the remaining fluid in the system.

Step 4

Remove the spring that is between the bracket on the cylinder body and the clutch fork. This spring allows the stem to return to its original state, returns all the liquid to the expansion tank. Unscrew the hose that is connected to the slave cylinder. Just in case, substitute a jar under it, as some liquid may leak out. Now, using a 13 spanner or socket wrench, you need to unscrew the two bolts that secure the clutch slave cylinder. We install a new one in the reverse order of removal.

Step 5

Make pitless repairs if you have a front wheel drive vehicle. In this case, the slave cylinder is located on the surface of the gearbox. On some cars, however, you will have to remove the air filter. The essence of the procedure is the same as in the above variant. You will also have to pour brake fluid into the system after repairs, bleed the clutch.

Step 6

Bleed the clutch. This is done with the help of a tube that is put on the fitting of the working cylinder, a small amount of liquid, a key for 8, and you cannot do without a partner. Lower the other end of the tube into a can of liquid, the partner squeezes and releases the clutch several times, and then squeezes it all the way. At this point, you slightly unscrew the fitting, allowing air to escape from the system. Repeat this procedure at least five times until the air is completely gone.
