Thresholds by the nature of attachment to the body are removable and non-removable. Fixed ones are welded to the body and form its lower part. Removable screws are attached to the base of the body from the outer and lateral sides of the side members in the area of the vehicle interior, protecting the body from emissions from under the wheels.

It is necessary

  • 1. Workbench.
  • 2. Tool for straightening and straightening with staples, stripper and spotter.
  • 3. Automatic or semi-automatic welding machine.
  • 4. A set of locksmith tools.
  • 5. Grinder or pneumatic chisel.

Instructions

Step 1

Removable thresholds are fixed, as a rule, with self-tapping screws. If the threshold is slightly damaged, remove it and straighten it on a workbench with a straightening and straightening tool. Before reinstalling, coat the inner surface of the threshold with an anti-corrosion compound. If the threshold is badly damaged or corroded through, replace it with a new one.

Step 2

Straighten non-removable slightly damaged thresholds without pronounced deformation folds with a hood from the outside. To do this, first weld on special brackets, and then carry out a sequential drawing with an inertial puller or spotter.

Step 3

To repair a non-removable sill with moderate damage, first remove the doors, seats and flooring in the repair area. The first repair method: cut out a window from the side of the threshold, insert an anvil or a hydraulic device into it, with which you can extract the area to be repaired. After reconditioning, weld the window with a suitable sheet of metal and align the outside weld flush with tin solder.

Step 4

The second method: make two cross-cuts for the hole on top of the threshold, and then separate the weld points. Insert the anvil through the partially opened cavity and straighten. Then close the opened hole and weld.

Step 5

If the threshold is damaged directly under the door, cut out the damaged area so that the remainder of the threshold is not damaged. Make a new part, fit it to the removed area and weld it on.

Step 6

If the threshold is severely damaged, cut out the damaged area with a pneumatic chisel or grinder. Make cutouts near the front or rear doors or at the base of the B-pillar.

Step 7

If not only the threshold is damaged, but also the rack, replace it along with the threshold. Cut out the side member and B-pillar against the roof. Check the side member while cutting the area to be replaced. Straighten it if necessary with a straightening and straightening tool.
