Thresholds are the most vulnerable place in the car. Corrosion considers them a kind of "delicacy". On the ten, which is barely 8-9 years old, one can observe terrible rusty traces, which often turn into through holes. Moreover, they may not even be noticeable under a layer of paint, the threshold simply rots from the inside.

Step 1

Replace the thresholds with the VAZ-2110 if they have lost their original appearance and cannot ensure the performance of all the functions assigned to it. Sadly, this is where most of the water and chemicals from the roads are found. Therefore, the thresholds rot in the first place. And no matter how hard you try to stop corrosion, you will hardly be able to do this. If rotting has begun, it cannot be prevented by any anti-corrosion treatments. Before starting the repair, prepare the car, disconnect the battery and remove it, because welding will be carried out.

Step 2

Continue preparation, for this you need to completely disassemble the repaired side of the machine. We'll have to remove the mats, dismantle all the noise insulation and seat belts, seats, both doors (in case of replacing both thresholds, remove everything). Also get rid of the plastic trim panels, the locker, the rear wheel, and the front fender. In other words, you should have bare metal in front of you, no plastic or other combustible materials that interfere with the work.

Step 3

Tape all the glass from the inside so that when working with the grinder, dust does not settle on them. Also, it will not be superfluous to cover the rest of the car interior. Pick up the grinder and start stripping. All rot that is on the bottom of the machine must be cut off. Part of the bottom of the connector goes under the knife and the entire sill of the car. If the upper part of the connector is in poor condition, then it must also be cut off. The final stage of the preparatory work includes cleaning the metal with a carbrush.

Step 4

Take a welding machine and, having previously adjusted the amperage, weld the connector. It is necessary to weld the amplifier onto the new threshold, and then liberally lubricate all the insides with special mastic, which will protect against corrosion. After that only you can weld with the connector. All welds must be cleaned with a trowel disc.

Step 5

Weld the sill to the body, doing it as carefully as possible so that the seam is even and strong. Patching can be done as needed. Just make sure that its thickness is the same as that of the metal from which the threshold is made. At the end, all the seams are cleaned again, and the metal parts are abundantly lubricated with mastic. From the side of the cabin, it is necessary to first lay the mastic, then polyethylene, then again the mastic, and only then you need to lay the soundproofing and carpet. Outside, the new threshold must be covered with several coats of primer and, if desired, painted in the desired color.
