Anti-corrosion treatment of the car is carried out during the assembly process on the conveyor, but car owners are trying to protect the new car additionally. As practice shows, this is really necessary.
Necessary
- - tools;
- - mastic or varnish.
Instructions
Step 1
The first method of processing is covering the thresholds with auto chemistry (varnishes and mastic). It is simple, it only requires free time and accuracy. The result depends on how correctly you followed the instructions. There are some features of the application: high-quality materials are not cheap, and simpler ones are not always suitable for processing the thresholds of foreign cars.
Step 2
The second option is electrochemical protection. There are pros and cons to this. It is not recommended to do it yourself, try to find a car repair shop or service center, where you will be given a written guarantee. The essence of the method is as follows. Electrodes are placed on the thresholds, and when DC is applied, corrosion will be drawn onto them. The thresholds are intact, the electrodes are changed once a year. However, in winter, after driving on roads watered with chemistry, the electrodes rot after a couple of months, followed by the thresholds. Due to the supply of current, they can rot through and through over the season.
Step 3
The third way: treat the thresholds with the so-called "liquid wheel arch liners". This is a viscous paste, applied directly to the body and, solidifying, forms a kind of plastic. Domestic materials are also quite suitable for the first processing. When working, make sure the mastic is applied uniformly. If the layer is too thin, rapid destruction will begin from impacts of pebbles, very thick - it will crack and flake off. The optimum thickness of the anti-corrosion coating is 1, 5 or 2 mm.
Step 4
Before reprocessing, wash the car, dry it and only then proceed with the repair work. Treat damaged areas with gasoline and apply a fresh coat of anti-corrosion material. If the treatment was carried out irregularly, the thresholds could rust. In this case, first remove the rust mechanically (abrasive paper) or with a rust converter. After that, treat the metal with a primer.
