Almost every owner, during the operation of the car, has small scratches and chips on the bumper, because it is this part of the car that protrudes outward most of all. Such scars from bad parking spoil the whole appearance of your car. Painting in specialized offices very often costs a lot of money. If you own a domestically produced car, then it is best to paint the bumper yourself, as this will save you time and money.
It is necessary
Skin of different calibers, rubber spatula, construction hair dryer, wrenches of different sizes, primer, paint, soap solution
Instructions
Step 1
You need to start by removing the bumper. To do this, remove the radiator trim. If you have fog lights installed in your bumper, then disconnect the terminals that go to them. Make sure that the terminals do not touch each other. For greater safety, you can first remove the negative terminal from the battery. Now unscrew the bolts of the side bumper mounts. After that, it is necessary to loosen the nuts that connect the bumper to the crankcase guard. There are usually five of them. Unscrew the two front bumper bolts. Gently pull the bumper towards you, holding it symmetrically with both hands by the edges. If you are removing the rear bumper, proceed in the same way.
Step 2
Now it is necessary to examine the surface of the bumper for mechanical defects. If there are too many of them, then you will have to buy a new bumper. Rinse the removed bumper thoroughly. To do this, use a sponge and soapy water. Then let the bumper dry. It is necessary to get rid of the old paint as much as possible, since because of it, new paint can begin to crack and swell. Use a blow dryer and rubber trowel to remove. Heat the surface evenly with smooth movements and remove the swollen paint with a spatula. Clean the entire surface as much as possible.
Step 3
Degrease the cleaned bumper surface and apply a thin coat of primer to it. The primer must be applied in an even layer over the entire surface. If one layer is not enough, then apply the second after the first is completely dry. Let dry.
Step 4
Once the primer is completely dry, degrease the surface again. Start applying paint in smooth movements. Can be spray painted. But it's best to use a spray gun. Take your time to avoid dripping. Apply two coats of paint. The paint must be purchased in advance. It must be selected by marking to match the color with the body. Wait until the paint is completely dry and buff the surface if necessary.
