The rear gearbox of the car is one of the main elements of the transmission, therefore its performance, which depends on the correct adjustment, is extremely important during the operation of the car. Otherwise, a fairly strong hum will be heard when driving, which will create inconvenience when using the vehicle.

Necessary

  • - torque wrench;
  • - adjusting rings;
  • - mandrel.

Instructions

Step 1

Remove and disassemble the gearbox together with the differential. The work of the latter depends on strict rules that must be followed during assembly and adjustment. Inspect differential, replace defective parts and reassemble.

Step 2

Lubricate the transmission with oil through the windows in the differential housing. Install the side gears together with the satellites and support washers. Then turn them and the satellites so that the rotation axis aligns with the axial hole in the housing. Install the pinion axle. Measure the axial clearance of each gear, it should be less than 0, 10 mm. If it is larger, then this is a clear sign of wear on the parts of the differential itself. Replace the gear support washers with thicker ones. If the clearance has not decreased, replace the gears with new ones.

Step 3

Install the driven gear to the differential housing. Press the inner rings of the roller bearings onto it. Select the thickness of the adjusting ring and set the correct position of the pinion gear relative to the driven one. Install the pinion flange, then the front bearing inner race, then rotate the mandrel to properly install the bearing rollers and tighten the nut. Use the indicator to determine the arithmetic mean between the ends of the mandrel to find out the thickness of the adjusting ring. If, during the repair of the rear gearbox, the main gear gear, the gearbox housing or the bearings of the drive gear were replaced, then the spacer sleeve must be replaced with a new one.

Step 4

Insert the pinion gear into the gearbox crater and install the washer, then the pinion flange, followed by the front bearing inner ring, oil seal and slinger. Adjust the pinion bearing to limit misalignment under operating loads on the drive gear. To do this, create an initial preload with a dynamometer that measures the torque of the drive pinion cranking resistance. Tighten the flange nut while checking the torque. It should correspond to new bearings 7, 5-9, 5 kgf.

Step 5

Install the outer bearing races with the assembled differential box. Tighten the mounting bolts with a torque wrench after installing the bearing caps. By lowering the oil level, i.e. below the level of normal operation of the gearbox, replace the oil seal with a new one. Collect the rear axle.
