If there is a significant vertical backlash in the closed trunk lid, or if the trunk is closed heavily, its lock must be adjusted in height. The whole process takes a little time and presents no difficulty.
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the necessary tools: pliers, a screwdriver with a thin flat tip and a "10" socket wrench. Then put the handbrake on the car and open the trunk. Make sure the boot lid is firmly locked in one position during adjustment. Using a screwdriver, carefully loosen the screw that secures the rod. Inspect the end of the rod, if it is bent, then carefully straighten it with pliers.
Step 2
Remove the lining of the lock, then slightly loosen the nuts that secure the lock to the car body. Slowly move the lock in the desired direction, then do not fully tighten the link securing screw. Open and close the trunk several times, checking the ease of locking. If you are satisfied with how the trunk closes, then finally tighten the mounting bolts. Re-adjust if uncomfortable.
Step 3
If the latch does not fit into the desired groove of the latch of the lock when the trunk is closed and an impact is heard, then carefully loosen the bolts that secure the latch and move it in the direction you want. Check the accuracy of the catch when closing the cover, if everything is in order, then carefully tighten the bolts.
Step 4
You can check if the latch is aligned with the hole using a simple method. Attach masking tape to the "trap" - the second part of the lock, which is attached to the body of the car. After that, begin to lower the door, making sure not to slam it all the way. Then see if the latch is trapped. If so, everything is in order and no adjustment is required.
Step 5
If you cannot adjust the lock in any way, then try contacting a professional at a car service. Or replace the trunk lock yourself.
