During operation, some malfunctions may occur in a car battery: oxidation of the lead pins, leakage of electrolyte, rapid self-discharge, short circuit, etc. In this case, it is necessary to replace the faulty battery with a new one, and disassemble the old one. But, if you decide to completely disassemble the car battery, you must understand that it will be impossible to reassemble it. Stories about what can be disassembled, cleaned and screwed back are just fairy tales.

Necessary

  • - grinder;
  • - protective glasses;
  • - latex gloves;
  • - drill;
  • - chisel and hammer;
  • - glass jar;
  • - bucket;
  • - distilled water.

Instructions

Step 1

Drain the electrolyte from the battery packs first. Electrolyte is an acid diluted with water - a very caustic substance that leaves burns, corrodes fabric and 2-3 cm of metal per day. In order to drain all the electrolyte, it is necessary to drill holes on the bottom of the battery with a drill. The number of holes depends on the number of battery blocks (compartments). Drill the holes one at a time and pour the electrolyte into the jar.

Step 2

Now, through these holes, thoroughly rinse the compartments with distilled water. Once you are convinced that there is no more electrolyte in the battery, saw off the cover around the perimeter with a grinder. Then, holding the battery, pull out this cover.

Step 3

Then disconnect and remove all parts of the battery. To do this, using a chisel and a hammer, we break all the connections inside the battery. There is acid in almost every battery compartment, so you should be extremely careful and remove all parts only by wearing gloves and goggles. To get rid of acid and electrolyte residues, fill the entire battery with water and wash all substances. Pour the used water into a bucket. After the battery is completely emptied, only the body and fragmented compartment connections should remain.

Step 4

At the end of the work, rinse the case again with water, and immerse the removed parts in a container with water for a couple of days to completely remove the acid. That's it, the battery is completely disassembled!
