The question of disassembling your steel horse arises when the car is old and requires constant repairs. Selling it as a means of transportation does not work, but throwing it away just like that is a pity.

Instructions

Step 1

Having decided to disassemble the car, decide what it is for. The options are:

• get spare parts for sale;

• restore spare parts and then use them to build a snowmobile, tractor, etc.;

• to repair individual components of the vehicle for its subsequent assembly, ie. make a major overhaul.

Step 2

In any case, the vehicle is thoroughly washed before disassembly. Choose a place where you will disassemble the car. At the same time, please note that after removing components and assemblies, additional area will be required to accommodate them. The place of disassembly must be equipped with some kind of lifting device (electric hoist, hand winch, hoist, etc.), have sufficient lighting, the ability to connect power tools.

Step 3

Begin disassembly by removing the electrical equipment. This is done in order not to damage the electrical equipment during subsequent operations on disassembling and removing the units. The removed starter, generator, dashboard, distributor (if any), heater motor, glass washer, wiper motor, as well as alarm and lighting devices (headlights, front and rear lights, repeaters, sound signal), wipe, if necessary, wash, blow with compressed air, place on racks.

Step 4

Then dismantle the body elements. Remove successively all the doors, the hood and the trunk lid, the front and rear bumpers, remove the seats from the passenger compartment.

Step 5

Before proceeding with further disassembly, drain the operating oils from the gearboxes of the axles, gearbox, engine, as well as gasoline from the fuel tank. To do this, unscrew the drain plugs and use a separate container for each type of oil.

Step 6

Remove the front and rear windows, if necessary (the body will be prepared for painting or it needs repairs).

Step 7

Now dismantle the gearbox, having previously disconnected the elements connecting it to the drive axles.

Step 8

Disconnect the cooling system radiator, heater radiator, fuel lines, exhaust system, levers and power system control cables from the engine. Remove the bolts securing the engine to the frame or body (if supporting).

Further, having fastened the mounting loops, use the lifting mechanism to remove the engine from the engine compartment. This should be done slowly, carefully so as not to damage the engine itself, the body or parts that were not disconnected by mistake before dismantling.

After removal, it is advisable to place the engine in a pre-prepared metal bath, where it can be thoroughly washed before further disassembly (if repairs are necessary).

Step 9

Disconnect the front and rear axles from the frame or body, after removing the shock absorbers and suspension fasteners. Remove and put the body in place of its subsequent repair.

Step 10

Perform further disassembly of components and assemblies after determining the suitability of parts for further use, i.e. which parts can be used without additional work with them, which ones need to be restored (sprayed, welded, grinded, etc.), and which ones will go to scrap metal.
