Step 1
It is possible to determine the state of the car when the catalyst is faulty by several signs. The first is a deterioration in traction and an increase in gas mileage, the car starts with difficulty from a cold start. After the engine has warmed up, the vehicle will start normally. In advanced cases, the car engine starts to stall constantly. Second, since the catalyst is clogged, the exhaust gases from the pipe stop flowing. The interior may smell of exhaust fumes. If you have one or more signs, then it is time for you to change or remove the catalyst.
Step 2
Go through computer diagnostics, the program will display all errors. If there are errors in the operation of the catalyst or the system writes that the catalyst is faulty, then you should contact the service that replaces catalysts or install flame arresters. You can replace the catalyst yourself. Be aware that you cannot simply remove the catalyst. Firstly, the noise will increase (an additional resonator appears in the place where it should not be), and secondly, the level of CO2 emission into the environment will increase. Thirdly, if you have a catalyst with one lambdazone before it, then you can put a flame arrester, if you have two lambdazonds (before and after), then it is advisable to put a universal catalyst.

Examine the catalyst. To do this, you need to remove it. This can sometimes be difficult to do as the nuts stick together, so be patient. Look at the lumen of the catalyst honeycomb. If there is no mechanical damage and light is visible, then you can rinse the part. If you see noticeable destruction of the honeycomb, then you will have to change the catalyst or install a flame arrester. Then you'd better contact a specialized service. It is possible that after replacing the catalyst, you will need to reprogram the computer.
