Engine oil reduces frictional losses of engine power, reduces wear of rubbing parts, cools their surfaces and removes wear products. Therefore, during the operation of the car, it is gradually contaminated with carbon deposits, dust and metal particles. It is for this reason that automotive oils should be changed periodically. The procedure and terms for its replacement are defined in the operation manual.
Necessary
- - wrenches;
- - engine oil;
- - container for collecting oil.
Instructions
Step 1
Change the oil on Peugeot engines at least once every 6 months. It is advisable to change the filter at the same time, but, in any case, do this at least once a year. Immediately before replacing, warm up the engine to operating temperature, place the car on an inspection pit or overpass. If they are absent, hang up the front wheels by jacking up the Peugeot and placing special supports under the suspension arms.
Step 2
Stop the car and apply the handbrake. Be sure to secure yourself by substituting dummy supports under the wheels of the car. When jacking up the vehicle, do not rest it against the oil pan, gearbox, subframe, or rear axle.
Step 3
Remove the shield protecting the engine crankcase. To do this, getting to the bottom of the car, unscrew the bolts of its fastening. Place a prepared container under the drain plug to collect the used oil. Unscrew the drain plug located on the engine sump and wait until the old oil is completely drained into the container. Open the filler cap or remove the dipstick to speed up the process.
Step 4
Please note that used oil can be hot and can cause burns if it comes into direct contact with it. Observe environmental regulations when disposing of it. After draining is complete, thoroughly clean the drain plug and tube and inspect the O-ring. If it is damaged, replace it. Tighten the drain plug with a torque of 30 Nm.
Step 5
Analyze the condition of the drained oil. To do this, immerse your thumb and forefinger in it, take out and rub them together. If the presence of grains or metal particles is felt, then bearing damage will occur. Drops of coolant (water or antifreeze) or yellowish tints indicate a depressurization of the head gasket. A dark color indicates an urgent need to replace it, which is what you are doing.
Step 6
If not already done, open the filler cap. Fill up to the correct level with new engine oil that complies with the instructions for use. Check its level with a dipstick. Fill in new oil slowly, constantly checking its level, as it takes time to drain into the crankcase.
Step 7
Close the oil filler cap and reinsert the dipstick. Start the engine and let it idle for 10 minutes, then turn it off again. Wait another 5 minutes for the glass to be lubricated from the engine to the crankcase. Check its level with a dipstick. Considering that during engine operation, it is evenly distributed over the power unit and filled the filter, its level will drop. Add engine oil to the correct level.
