The clutch basket is a drive plate mounted on the flywheel of a vehicle's engine. A driven disc is located inside the basket, which is connected to the input shaft of the gearbox using a splined connection.
The clutch block of a passenger car consists of a release bearing, a driven and a driving disc. Moreover, the presenter is called a basket. But he really is very similar to her, in this basket is placed a driven disc mounted on the input shaft of the gearbox. It is a two-disc clutch and is used in all passenger cars as it is very simple and reliable. In terms of reliability, it is much superior to the multi-disc, which is installed on motor vehicles.
The clutch basket has some special features. Inside it has a metal disc, to which the driven disc with pads fits snugly during operation. Petals are located around the hole in which the input shaft of the gearbox is installed. The release bearing, put on the input shaft, pulls the petals towards the engine block, while the driven disc is disengaged from the drive. At this moment, the clutch is disengaged and gear changes can be made.

How to replace the clutch basket
On rear-wheel drive vehicles, the transmission of torque from the box to the wheels is carried out using a propeller shaft. On front-wheel drive - with the help of constant velocity joints. This is the main difference that cars have. The clutch block is still installed on the flywheel, between the gearbox and the engine. Therefore, to replace the clutch basket, you will have to remove the gearbox. Only first you need to remove the drives from the wheels or the propeller shaft.
The engine is attached to the box with bolts that must be removed. The box is attached to the body with special pillows that will need to be removed during repairs. You also need to remove the clutch cable, wires from the reverse sensor, speedometer cable, ground wires. Only then can the box and the engine be disconnected. Do not forget that you cannot remove both CV joints from the gearbox of a front-wheel drive car, otherwise the differential gears will come out of engagement and you will have to disassemble the box.
