Good light in the car is the most important safety parameter. Modern technologies are developing at the speed of a spacecraft and solutions used 5 years ago already look hopelessly outdated today. It is unprofitable for automakers to update old products, but third-party developers actively support this topic. To improve the design and luminous flux, it is proposed to install a lens in the reflective structure of the headlamp.

Necessary

  • - lenses;
  • - industrial dryer;
  • - set of screwdrivers;
  • - gloves;
  • - plastic and soldering iron

Instructions

Step 1

First remove and completely disassemble the headlight on your vehicle. Follow the repair instructions when removing the headlights. To disassemble the headlamp, warm it up with an industrial hair dryer. This is necessary so that the special sealant that holds the headlamp together begins to melt. Once it has melted, separate the glass (clear plastic) and the headlight housing, avoiding excessive force on the parts. The melting point of the sealant (300 degrees) will not damage the glass and headlight housing.

Step 2

Set the temperature on the hair dryer to 300 C and begin to carefully warm up the joint between the glass and the case. Keep the hair dryer at a distance of 1-2 cm from the headlight, take your time, slowly walk around the entire circumference of the glass-to-body connection. Keep the approximate speed so that you travel the entire circumference of the headlamp for a minute. To evenly warm up the headlight, walk at least 5 times around the entire perimeter. After that, prying off with a screwdriver, disconnect the headlight housing and glass.

Step 3

When purchasing lenses, pay attention that they have solenoids for switching light from low to high and vice versa, as well as connectors, wires, fasteners for lamps. The presence of lens edging will greatly facilitate the work of decorating the headlight. Having disassembled the headlamp, remove the reflector, which is usually attached with screws. To maintain the headlight adjustment function, remove the metal reflector mounts and make your own adapters for attaching lenses to them.

Step 4

Use a sheet of stainless steel or aluminum to make the required brackets. Choose the thickness so that the finished adapter will securely hold the heavy lens. After measuring the distance between the holes on the lens, cut them out

Step 5

Assemble the lens and mounts into a single structure. Do not tighten the screws. For an accurate alignment of the right and left mountings, install the lens in the headlight. When the fasteners align with the adjusting screws, finally tighten the fasteners. At the same time, put each screw on glue or on a sealant so that it does not unscrew from vibration.

Step 6

With the framed lens in place, fit the inside of the headlight to fit the lens. Make cutouts at the top, sides and / or bottom as needed. Cover the excess space with pieces of plastic soldered to the standard parts. If you want to have the effect of tinted headlights, paint the substrate (reflector frame) with black primer enamel from an aerosol can.

Step 7

To maintain the headlight adjustment function, do not close tightly the joint between the lens and the substrate. Make a screen that overlaps the gap between these elements. This will require a soldering iron and plastic. Having tried on the screen on the headlight, cover it with a backing and turn on the light. Not a single ray of light should penetrate the lens.

Step 8

Assemble the headlight in the same order as you dismantled it. Use the same industrial hair dryer to warm up the sealant until it melts, then carefully connect the glass and the headlight housing, pressing with medium force. Warm up loose joints again and squeeze more tightly.
