Step 1
If you do decide to remove the airbag, then there are several recommendations on this matter. First, you need to understand how the system works. It consists of the airbag module itself, a shock detection sensor and a diagnostic unit. The driver's airbag module is located in the steering wheel and the passenger airbag is located in the dashboard. The sensors are located in the front of the car, outside, or in the cabin. The diagnostic unit has an LED lamp that lights up in the event of a security system malfunction. If this light comes on, you should contact an authorized service center for your car brand.
Step 2
To remove the airbag, proceed as follows: Unscrew the airbag together with the torpedo from the spacer support beam using the TORX key. Remove the glove compartment and unscrew the protection with a Phillips screwdriver. There are several bolts in front of you, unscrew them and pry the plug on top, disconnect the wiring. Take out the entire structure.
Step 3
Your further actions will be to replace the pillow block, or just the plugs. But not everything is so simple. By replacing the airbag, you do not get rid of the problem, because the information about its deployment remains in the system's memory, and only a specialist can erase it. Otherwise, the pillow will be inoperative, and the diagnostic unit light will be on.
Step 4
Together with the airbag, the seat belt system is also deployed, after which it becomes malfunctioning. Therefore, it also requires replacement. So removing the airbag is not difficult, but you should not forget about safety, because you may need it even in the most unexpected cases.
