Instructions
Step 1
To open the bonnet on the Ford Scorpio, pull the handle of the drive of its lock. It is located at the bottom of the steering column. This will raise the hood edge. Stand in front of the car and put your hand under the edge of the hood. Feel for the safety hook and push it up. Open the bonnet and insert the safety hook into the slot on the bonnet.
Step 2
To close the hood, pull the safety hook out of its seat, place the stop in the seat and secure it with the latch. Lower the hood to a height of 15-20 cm and release. Let it fall freely onto the lock. When locking the lock, a characteristic click should be heard. Check that it operates and that it closes securely. An unsecured hood can spontaneously open while driving.
Step 3
If the cable for the hood lock drive breaks, open it with a long screwdriver, getting close to the bottom of the car. To do this, place the car on a viewing pit, ditch or overpass. If there is a lift or jack with stops, hang the front of the machine. Make sure the vehicle is securely locked against accidental movement. To do this, engage the gear, apply the parking brake, install the wheel chocks.
Step 4
Remove the lower trim shroud from the steering column by unscrewing the two screws securing it. Disconnect the drive cable from the hood lock control lever. To do this, remove its shell from the bracket, and disconnect the cable from the lever. Insert the cable into the engine compartment. After getting to the bottom of the car, remove the drive cable from the side mounts in the engine compartment. Unscrew the bolts securing the hood lock and remove it.
Step 5
Install the new cable in the reverse order of removal. Install the bonnet cover lock. Before operating the repaired vehicle, make sure that the bonnet release lever fully opens the bonnet latch. If not, adjust the cable.
