On cars with automatic transmission, the automatic transmission independently performs gear changes. In the case of a manual gearbox, the driver himself has to determine the moment of transition to an up or down gear. In order not to harm the main transmission unit, this must be done correctly.
Instructions
Step 1
You are driving in first gear, gradually accelerating the vehicle. In time, this period is short, if you are on a good road, and not overcome some bumps and ditches. The moment to switch to second gear will be to accelerate to about 20 km / h.
Step 2
Take your right foot off the gas pedal, with your left foot depress the clutch pedal as far as it will go, quickly enough, but not abruptly. Move the gearshift lever to neutral for one or two seconds - and engage second gear. Release the clutch pedal quickly but smoothly and increase the pressure on the gas pedal just as smoothly. At the same time, the car should not twitch and skid, but progressively develop speed.
Step 3
Having developed a speed of up to 35-40 km / h, you can switch to third gear. The movements are the same: remove your right foot from the gas pedal, squeeze the clutch and shift the gear lever through neutral to third. These operations can now be carried out faster. We accelerated to 50-60 km / h, go to the fourth and further.
Step 4
When overcoming a bad section of the road, shift to a lower gear. To do this, place your right foot on the brake pedal and set the required travel speed. After squeezing the clutch, move the lever, without holding it in neutral, to the appropriate gear speed. Release the clutch pedal smoothly and increase the throttle.
Step 5
From the very beginning of self-driving learning, try not to look at the gearshift lever, pedals and instruments, but to pay full attention to the traffic situation: the movement of other vehicles on the sides, front and rear, traffic signals and road markings. Monitor the situation with side and rear view mirrors.
Step 6
Do not practice upshifting without going through an intermediate gear in order to accelerate your car as quickly as possible. For example, from the second immediately to the fourth. This leads to early wear of the involved units and parts. In addition, the engine can behave inappropriately and stall at the most unpredictable moment, and you thereby create an emergency situation.
