Necessary

  • - laundry soap;
  • - acetone;
  • - sandpaper;
  • - epoxy adhesive;
  • - fiberglass;
  • - soldering iron;
  • - tin;
  • - tin plate;
  • - cold welding glue.

Instructions

Step 1

Try covering very small pinhole holes with laundry soap. Such measures will help you postpone major repairs for several days.

Step 2

Seal small cracks with epoxy glue and fiberglass. If possible, remove the gas tank and completely drain the gasoline from it. Thoroughly clean the leaky area, dry.

Step 3

Sand the glued area with sandpaper and degrease with acetone and dry again. Prepare fiberglass patches by cutting them into equal pieces so that they protrude a few centimeters beyond the edges of the gap.

Step 4

Dilute epoxy glue (preferably two-component) and coat the surface of the gas tank at the gluing point. Saturate the patch with glue and attach it to the tank. To make the patch sit more tightly, attach a plastic bag to it and “nail down” well with your hand or a stiff brush.

Step 5

After setting, after 15-20 minutes, apply the second layer of fiberglass in the same way, wait until it dries. The total number of layers is three to four. When applying the last layer of fabric, add a little aluminum powder or other plasticizer.

Step 6

Try cold welding on a small hole. Remove the leaky tank and thoroughly degrease the surface. Rub the bonding area with sandpaper and seal up with Cold Weld glue. Try to grab the edges a few centimeters while doing this.

Step 7

Solder the large gap or hole in the gas tank. Try to stop leaking from the gas tank, drain all the gasoline. Degrease the surface with acetone, sand with sandpaper. Prepare a patch, degrease it in the same way and grind it with emery.

Step 8

Tin both seams with tin, then attach to each other and heat with a soldering iron. When the plate is securely fastened, tin it with tin around the perimeter and on top, ensuring complete tightness.
