The process of replacing the working fluid (oil) in the power steering is mandatory in the following cases: when suspended solids appear in the fluid or when it becomes cloudy, with a long service life of the machine, with a sharp change in the color of the oil, or after removing / installing / repairing any of the power steering units. Also change the oil if there are extraneous sounds during engine operation and steering wheel rotation.

Instructions

Step 1

Be sure to drain the old and used oil from the system with flushing the amplifier reservoir, flushing the entire system with draining the used fluid. For new oil, select only the types of fluids recommended by the manufacturer for each make and model of car. Look for the list of recommended types in the technical documentation. Avoid mixing different types of oils.

Step 2

Drain the working fluid either manually or on a specialized stand. When using the stand, connect it to the hydraulic steering system. After switching on, the stand will automatically drain the old oil, flush the system and replace the old fluid with a new one.

Step 3

When performing manual operations to drain oil from the GR system, disconnect the tank, remove its cap and drain the oil. Then, disconnect the discharge and drain lines from the distributor and drain the oil from the amplifier pump through them. Begin to slowly turn the steering wheel left and right until it stops, while draining the oil from the power cylinder.

Step 4

When draining, make sure that the waste liquid does not get on other parts, wires and pipelines in the engine compartment. It can hurt them. Make sure the entire hydraulic system is drained. Flush the system to ensure the removal of oil residues as well as residues and deposits (especially from hard-to-reach places).

Step 5

After draining the working fluid, be sure to flush the power steering reservoir. To do this, remove the filter from this reservoir and rinse it. Thoroughly wipe the inside of the reservoir to remove any remaining contaminated oil. Put the washed filter back into the power steering tank.

Step 6

The frequency of replacing the working fluid in the power steering is prescribed in the vehicle operating instructions. As a rule, this operation is performed every 30 thousand kilometers or once every 1-3 years. It is recommended to change the system reservoir and oil filter at the same time as changing the fluid.
