The braking system of a car is a rather complex structure, which must always be in good condition. Neglecting to diagnose it can be extremely dangerous for drivers and passengers.

Necessary

  • - brake fluid;
  • - rags;
  • - ruler;
  • - spare parts.

Instructions

Step 1

Start by checking the brake fluid level. This operation is best carried out periodically: when operating a car, after pumping the hydraulic drive, as well as when there is a signal about an insufficient fluid level.

Step 2

Remove dirt from the reservoir with a cloth. Make sure the brake fluid is between the MAX and MIN marks. Check the wear of the brake pads. If the level is below the MIN mark, disconnect the wire harness tip and remove the reservoir cap.

Step 3

Top up with new brake fluid up to the MAX mark. Close the lid as tightly as possible. Connect the harness connector to the sensor connector. Check the operation of the emergency liquid level sensor. If it functions normally, then the indicator lamp on the instrument panel should light up.

Step 4

Check the vacuum brake booster further. Stop the engine if it has been running up to now. Press the brake pedal until the hiss in the brake booster disappears. After pressing, hold it in this position. Start the engine without releasing the pedal. If the engine ignition is switched on, the pedal has moved down a little, the brake booster is working properly.

Step 5

Check parking brake lever travel. This operation must be carried out quite often, since the rear brake pads wear out quickly. The lever travel should be approximately 3 clicks. In addition, the braking system needs to keep the equipped car on an incline of 23%. If these conditions are not met, replace the worn and damaged parts of the parking brake. Please check again.

Step 6

Check for free play. It represents the pedal travel from the highest position to the actuation of the brake mechanisms. It should be approximately 3-5 mm. Take a tape measure.

Step 7

Place it near the pedal and measure the distance from the floor to the surface of the brake pedal. Press on it with your hand. Lower until you feel an increase in resistance. Repeat measurements. Determine the free stroke by the difference between the found values.
